The LAYLA Journal is a literary journal that is composed of artwork, poetry, and stories written by Muslims. The volume highlights the stories of a select few of the 72 companions, who stayed behind when Imam Husayn blew out the candlelight and told them they are free to leave, the night before the battle of Karbala. “The great women of paradise are four: Maryam daughter of ‘Imran, Fatimah daughter of Muhammad, Khadijah daughter of Khuwaylid, and Asiyah daughter of Muzahim, wife of Pharaoh.”
By the grace of Allah, we are pleased to announce that submissions for Volume 4: Fatimah, Lady of Light are now open! Submit, poetry, art, and short stories inspired by the life of Lady Fatimah (a) if you would like to be a part of the next journal.
This volume is part of a series titled Women of Paradise, that will cover Lady Fatimah (a), Lady Maryam (a), Lady Khadija (a), and Lady Asiyah (a).

This volume will focus on the life of Lady Fatimah bint Muhammad (a). She is the daughter of the last Prophet of Allah, the wife of Imam Ali (a), and the Leader of the women of paradise.
In this journal, we are looking for works that focus Lady Fatimah (a)’s perseverance throughout her life. We are looking for works that focus on her perseverance throughout her childhood, her life after her marriage to Imam Ali (a), after the death of her father Prophet Muhammad (a), and her martyrdom. Even in the last moments of her life after many of her rights were taken away from Lady Fatimah (a), her faith never faltered.
In order to help our contributors, we have gathered links to events that we believe are important but not as well known or difficult to find authentic sources on. We are giving extra consideration to works based on one of the following:
- Lady Khadijah’s death (1; pg 18)
- Hadith e Kisa (1; pg 52)
- Tasbih story (1; pg 36)
- Charity to the Poor (1; pg 29)
- Knocking on doors
- Fadak (1; pg 149)
Inshallah we plan to focus on the four women of paradise over a series of journals during the coming years during Rajab.
You can submit art, poetry, or a short story. You can submit one piece to each section. For example, you can submit, an art, poetry, and short story submission, but not 3 poetry submissions. Continue reading “LAYLA Journal Volume 4 Submissions Open!”

This volume will focus on the companions of Imam Hussain on the journey to Karbala, until the end of the day of Ashura, such as Hadhrat Muslim and Hadhrat Hur.
Inshallah we plan to focus on different personalities that were important helpers of the Imam during this time in each Muharram issue in the coming years. For this reason, all works must focus heavily on the companions of the Imam, not members of the Ahlul Bait.
You can submit art, poetry, or a short story. You can submit one piece to each section. For example, you can submit, an art, poetry, and short story submission, but not 3 poetry submissions.
